Final Workouts of a Tough Week

Oh Saturday. My long ride day. Why don’t I just wake up early when I have no idea what I am doing and get on my bike and finish my ride? Well I got up a little later in the morning and hung around with my ride looming over my head. A little after 12:00 p.m. I got on my bike and started my ride. I had a 15 minute warmup in zone 1, then zones 1-3 in the middle, and zone 1 for the last 15 minutes. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t easy by any means! My legs were just screaming that they were over it! I had a hard timer in zone 3 but I held on and finished where I should have.

I still had to get my strength session in. I wanted to go to Costco with Mark and my dad. It just opened in Syracuse and I wanted to get some samples and browse. I rinsed off and we headed out. We had a ton of samples and picked up some items that we will definitely be using.

We came home and ate dinner. At this point I was losing steam and was thinking I was going to bail on the strength session. I watched the clock 6:30, 6:45, 7:00, and I was convinced it wasn’t happening. Somehow I got a second wind and Mark and I headed to the gym at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday night. Crazy, aren’t we? Good thing about going at that time was that the place was empty!  Mark was once again bored and took some pictures. Swimming and lifting sure is giving my back some definition! We cruised through the strength and some agility and we were done before the gym closed.

Sunday I had an easy 60 minute ride at 90+ cadence and a steady 2,000 yard straight swim. I was happy to see that on the schedule. Nothing that would kill me.

The 60 minute rides seem to fly by! I remember when I used to dread the trainer. It doesn’t bother me that much anymore. After the ride I hustled and got my swim stuff together, ate a snack and left for the pool. Elyssa and I were going to go to the Syracuse University pool. It is cleaner, deeper, not as chlorine over-loaded as the YMCA pool. We had some issues parking because my lot was being used for a high school football game. Once we parked we headed into the pool. It was empty! I love seeing an empty pool. We warmed up with a 200 yard easy swim. Elyssa led for the first 1,000 yards and then we switched and I lead the second 1,000 yards. Coach wanted the 2,000 yards to be between 30-32 minutes. My Garmin said 31.30. Perfect! Time goal met. We probably could have pushed it a little harder, oh well!

After the swim I ran some errands (Trader Joes, Wegmans) and then went home and baked some chocolate chip cookies and some healthy snacks for the week.

Scott was mountain biking with Mark so when they came home we had dinner and hung out the rest of the night! We made our own ice cream sandwiches with my cookies and some french vanilla ice cream from TJ’s.

I was definitely not excited my 5 days off from work was over. I always hate Sundays! I get super depressed that I have to make it through 5 more days to sleep in a little. Damn work, damn Ironman training!
