Ironman Training Week 9 Summary

It was my easy week! It was kind of a weird week because it was so easy. I also haven’t had to work since December 23rd so I think it felt even easier because I wasn’t in my normal rush to get everything done. I did try to soak up the easy workouts because I know that Matt is probably brewing an awesomely difficult 3 weeks for me.

Monday: I finally got a chance to go to yoga! I went with my mom on Monday morning. It was nice to get a good stretch in. I wish I had more time during the week to go to yoga but I don’t. I have been trying to be more proactive about stretching more. My IT band has been acting up so here we go again… I pushed my easy 60 minute ride off until the evening. I had all day and I did that. Stupid! I think I got on my bike at like 7:30 p.m. As much as I say I wish I had more free time during the day I don’t think I am efficient with free time.

Tuesday: Easy 60 minute ride. 3,100 yard swim. It was an easier one.

Wednesday: Easy 60 minute ride. Once again I had to make it to the Y to lift before it closed at 12 for New Years Eve. It was once again packed. I saw my friend Derk, though, so it was nice. We made plans for New Years at my house. Maria, Kristjan, and Derk came over. We just had a low key night which was great.


Thursday: Easy 60 minute ride and a mid-distance 50 minute run. I felt pretty great outside. It was a sunny afternoon so I absorbed as much sunlight as I could and kept my pace right around 9:00 which isn’t bad for barely running. Love that I didn’t lose as much running fitness as I thought! *We also looked at a house and loved it. We were surprised we liked it so much. More to come on that fiasco!


Friday: Easy 60 minute ride. I was supposed to swim, too, but I decided to move it to Saturday so that Mark and I could go skiing when he got home from work. Skiing is something I have always loved to do. I grew up downhill racing. Triathlon has definitely put some fear into me because I am scared of getting hurt for Ironman Lake Placid. Funny, because I never have ever thought that I could get hurt skiing.


Saturday: Easy 90 minute ride. It’s amazing that 90 minutes seems so easy on the trainer. Back when I tried to actually train for my first 70.3 45 minutes on the trainer was pure torture. God I love having a coach! 3,000 yard evening swim. I tried to enjoy my last “easy” swim for a while. I did a lot with the flippers and pull. The intervals went by pretty fast. Sometimes the flippers really hurt the tops of my feet.

Sunday: Easy 60 minute ride. Ah, the last day of my easy week. It was normal, boring, easy, nothing exciting. Mark and I went and looked at the house we were interested in again and we put in an offer. What a Sunday! My parents came too, of course. I was supposed to lift but I was so exhausted from the house stuff that I didn’t. I wonder if Matt reads this? If so I am busted!


Week 9 Totals:

Swim: 6,100 yards (omg that seems so little)

Bike: 7.5 hours

Run: 50 minutes

Strength: about 1.5 hours
